Covid-19: Brazil Totals 5.1 Million Cases and 150,689 Deaths (October 12th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Monday, October 12th, a national holiday, the Ministry of Health updated the Covid-19 case report in Brazil. With 201 new deaths recorded in 24 hours, the country totals 150,689 deaths from the disease. The cumulative number of infections since the start of the pandemic stands at 5,103,408.

Of the total number of infections since the start of the pandemic throughout the country, almost 4.5 million have recovered and another 457,000 are still undergoing treatment.

The lethality rate stands at three percent and mortality per 100,000 inhabitants stands at 71.7. The incidence of novel coronavirus cases per 100,000 inhabitants is 2,428.5.

States

The state of São Paulo records the highest number of diagnoses of the disease. Since the start of the pandemic to date, the state totals 1,038,344 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, with 37,279 deaths. From the total of confirmed cases, 920,961 people have recovered from the disease.

In the state, 8,702 people are hospitalized for suspected or confirmed infection, 4,251 of whom are in a critical condition. The intensive care unit (ICU) bed occupancy rate stands at 42.9 percent in the state and 41.1 percent in Greater São Paulo.

Next are Bahia (326,634 cases and 7,159 deaths), Minas Gerais (323,967 cases and 8,130 deaths), and Rio de Janeiro (283,858 cases and 19,312 deaths).

Acre is the state with the lowest number of infections, with 29,063 cases and 675 deaths, followed by Amapá (49,424 cases and 726 deaths), Roraima (52,659 infections and 670 deaths), and Rondônia (67,973 cases and 1,398 deaths).
