RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Ministry of Health’s daily bulletin, released on Thursday, Ocober 1st, reports that Brazil has recorded 4,847,092 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.
Of this total, three percent of cases resulted in death (144,680); 10.1 percent of patients are under treatment (489,640); and 86.9 percent of Brazilians who contracted Covid-19 have recovered (4,212,772).
In the past 24 hours, 728 deaths and 36,157 new confirmed cases were recorded. Health authorities are still investigating whether a further 2,440 deaths were caused by coronavirus.
São Paulo is nearing the one million cases mark of the novel coronavirus.
A little over seven months after the first case of Covid-19 was confirmed in Brazil, the state of São Paulo is close to totaling one million cumulative cases of the novel coronavirus. Up to yesterday, October 1st, the state counted 991,725 confirmed cases, 6,097 of which in the past 24 hours. The death toll totals 35,804, 182 of which between Wednesday and Thursday.
Of the total diagnosed cases, 856,453 people have recovered from the disease, 108,508 of them after hospitalization.
There are 9,086 people hospitalized throughout the state for suspected or confirmed novel coronavirus cases, 3,919 of whom in a critical condition. The intensive care unit (ICU) bed occupancy rate stands at 44 percent in the state and 42.7 percent in Greater São Paulo. The number of new hospitalizations in the state has been dropping for ten consecutive weeks and the occupancy rate is now the lowest since the start of the pandemic.
