Covid-19: Brazil Has 134,000 Deaths and 4.4 Million Cumulative Cases (September 16th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil has reached 134,106 deaths due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. In the past 24 hours, 987 deaths were recorded. The sum represents an increase of 0.7 percent over Tuesday when the numbers reported a total of 133,119 people who lost their lives to Covid-19. There are further 2,428 deaths under investigation.

The data are included in the Ministry of Health’s daily balance released on Wednesday evening, September 16th.

Still according to the update, 36,820 new Covid-19 diagnoses were added to the statistics, totaling 4,419,083 infections since the start of the pandemic. The result marks an increase of 0.8 percent compared to Tuesday when the panel reported 4,382,263 cumulative cases.

The Ministry of Health’s system also counted 564,665 patients in follow-up. From the total of infected patients, 84.2 percent have recovered from Covid-19, that is, 3,720,312 people.

The lethality (number of deaths by the total of cases) stood at three percent. Mortality (number of deaths per 100,000 inhabitants) stands at 63.8. The incidence (total of cases per 100,000 inhabitants) rose to 2,102.9.

Covid-19 in the states

The state of São Paulo now totals 33,253 deaths and 909,428 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus. The records fall within the two-week estimate of the Coronavirus Contingency Center in São Paulo, which projected between 900,000 and one million infections and 33,000 to 38,000 deaths by September 15th.

A new projection disclosed yesterday estimates that until September 30th the state will add between 960,000 and 1,05 million infections and between 35,000 and 38,000 deaths by the novel coronavirus.

The state of Rio de Janeiro records the second-highest number of deaths by Covid-19 (17,342). Next come Ceará (8,764), Pernambuco (7,933), and Pará (6,405).
