Brazil Passes 1.5 Million Confirmed Covid-19 Case Mark (July 3rd)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil has hit the 1.5 million confirmed cases accumulated since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. The number was disclosed in the Ministry of Health’s daily update. With 42,223 new cases, the total yesterday, July 3rd, reached 1,539,081, an increase of 2.8 percent compared to Thursday, July 2nd, when 1,496,858 cases were reported.

The balance also registered 1,290 new deaths in 24 hours, reaching the total of 63,174. The increase in the number of deaths grew 3.7 percent compared to Thursday, when the Ministry of Health’s panel counted 61,884 deaths.

Of the total number of infections to date, 868,372 have already recovered and 607,535 patients are in follow-up. There are still 3,968 deaths under investigation to determine if they were caused by Covid-19.

States

São Paulo is the state with the highest number of deaths as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic with 15,694 deaths, followed by Rio de Janeiro (10,500), Ceará (6,351), Pernambuco (5,068), Pará (5,050). The states with the fewest deaths are Mato Grosso do Sul (107), Tocantins (211), Roraima (358), Santa Catarina (376), and Acre (387).

Rio de Janeiro reaches 10,500 deaths

The state of Rio de Janeiro recorded 10,500 deaths from Covid-19, with 118,956 confirmed cases. There were 168 deaths and 2,133 cases recorded in 24 hours. The data were released on Friday, July 3rd by the State Health Secretariat (SES). There are another 1,024 deaths still under investigation, and 98,540 patients have recovered from the disease.

The capital city leads the number of deaths in the state, with 6,791 fatalities. Among the other municipalities in the state with the highest number of deaths are São Gonçalo (474), Duque de Caxias (451), Nova Iguaçu (350), São João de Meriti (238), Niterói (208), Belford Roxo (180), Magé (135), Itaboraí (132), Mesquita (119), Campos dos Goytacazes (108), Petrópolis (94) and Angra dos Reis (87). The six worst are all within Rio’s metropolitan area.

São Paulo records 15,600 deaths from coronavirus

With a further 343 deaths counted in 24 hours, the state of São Paulo now totals 15,694 fatalities from the novel coronavirus.

According to the State Health Secretariat, the majority of deaths are of patients aged 60 years or older, representing 74.4 percent of total deaths.
