Brazil Records 50,617 Deaths and 1.085 Million Covid-19 Cases (June 20th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil had 641 new Covid-19 deaths recorded in 24 hours, according to updated figures from the Ministry of Health released on Sunday, June 21st. With the addition of the new figures, the country reached a total of 50,617 deaths from the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Sunday’s balance recorded 17,459 new cases of the disease, totaling 1,085,038 confirmed cases. The one million infections mark was passed on Friday, June 19th.

Of the total confirmed Covid-19 cases in Brazil, 485,035 patients are under follow-up and 549,386 have recovered (50.6 percent). There are still 3,817 deaths under investigation to determine if they were caused by Covid-19.

São Paulo leads all Brazilian states in number of cases (219,185) and has recorded 12,588 deaths. Then come Rio de Janeiro with 96,133 cases and 8,875 deaths, Ceará with 92,866 cases and 5,523 deaths, and Pará with 84,654 confirmed cases and 4,583 deaths. The state with the lowest number of cases is Mato Grosso do Sul, with 5,237 infections, and 45 deaths.
