Brazil Counts 49,976 Deaths and 1.06 Million Covid-19 Cases (June 20th)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Brazil recorded 1,022 new Covid-19 deaths in 24 hours, according to a Ministry of Health update released yesterday, June 20th. With the addition of the new numbers to the statistics, the country now totals 49,976 deaths as a result of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The balance also counted 34,666 new infections, totaling 1,067,579 confirmed cases. The one million infections mark was passed on Friday, June 19th.

Of the total confirmed cases of covid-19 in Brazil, 496,869 patients are under observation and 520,734 have recovered. There are a further 3,415 deaths under investigation.

The lethality rate (number of deaths divided by the number of cases) stood at 4.7 percent. The mortality rate (deaths per 100,000 inhabitants) reached 23.8. The incidence (confirmed cases per 100,000 inhabitants) stood at 508.

The states recording the highest number of deaths are São Paulo (12,494), Rio de Janeiro (8,824), Ceará (5,518), Pará (4,519) and Pernambuco (4,148). Among other states with high death rates due to the pandemic are Amazonas (2,650), Maranhão (1,684), Bahia (1,350), Espírito Santo (1,297), Alagoas (866) and Paraíba (743).

The states with the highest number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 are São Paulo (215,793), Rio de Janeiro (95,537), Ceará (92,156), Pará (82,881) and Maranhão (69,673).
