Rio de Janeiro State Records 225 Additional Covid-19 Deaths in 24 Hours

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Over the past 24 hours, the state of Rio de Janeiro recorded 225 deaths from Covid-19. According to the State Health Secretariat’s (SES-RJ) report released yesterday, June 11th, the state recorded cumulative totals of 75,775 confirmed cases and 7,363 deaths from the novel coronavirus.

There are still 1,168 deaths under investigation and 273 have been ruled out. To date, 60,005 of the confirmed cases have recovered from the disease.

The capital city of Rio de Janeiro continues to lead in the number of cases. The city counts 40,017 confirmed cases of Covid-19. Next comes Niterói, in the metropolitan region (4,285); São Gonçalo (2,655); Nova Iguaçu (2,443); Duque de Caxias (2,026); Itaboraí (1,632); Macaé (1,434); Angra dos Reis (1,361); Queimados (1,255); São João de Meriti ( 1,210); Campos dos Goytacazes (1,137); Magé (1,136) Volta Redonda (1,061) and Belford Roxo (1,026), the municipalities with the highest number of patients.

Deaths

Of the 7,363 victims of Covid-19 in the state, the municipality of Rio de Janeiro accounts for 4,850 deaths. Next come Duque de Caxias (318); Nova Iguaçu (265); São Gonçalo (261); Belford Roxo and São João de Meriti (145). All of these are cities in the Baixada Fluminense suburbs bordering the city of Rio de Janeiro. Niterói counts 143 deaths, followed by Magé (112), Itaboraí (104), Mesquita (76) and Petrópolis with 64 deaths.
