RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Monday, Brazil confirmed a further 623 deaths from the disease caused by the coronavirus, and the total number of deaths stands at 29,937. The Ministry of Health’s daily fatality figures are lower than last week’s average, influenced by the fact that, over the weekend, many state and municipal authorities do not report their statistics to the federal ministry.
On Monday, 12,247 new cases of the disease were also reported. Amid the escalation of Covid-19, some Brazilian states rehearsed the partial reopening of economic activity on Monday. In the capital city of São Paulo, the epicenter of the crisis in the country, various business sectors will be required to submit a health plan to the City Hall in order to reopen.
According to the State Government, the city should be ready to reopen stores, shopping malls, and offices. Pará and Amazonas states are also initiating their resumption plans. The country ranks fourth in the world in the number of deaths caused by Covid-19.
