Brazil Records 96,500 Coronavirus Cases and 6,700 Deaths (May 2nd)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Yesterday, May 2nd, the Ministry of Health released new figures on the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic in the country.

According to a daily survey carried out by the portfolio, Brazil has 96,559 confirmed cases of the disease, and 6,750 deaths have been recorded. The mortality rate stands at seven percent. The Ministry has registered 4,970 new cases and 421 deaths in 24 hours.

According to the Ministry of Health, there are 40,937 recovered patients, representing 42.4 percent of cases. There are still 1,330 deaths under investigation. These two estimates, according to the portfolio, are subject to review.

The state of São Paulo leads the statistics, with 31,174 cases and 2,586 deaths. Rio de Janeiro comes second with 10,546 cases and 971 deaths. Next is Ceará, with 8,309 cases and 638 deaths; Pernambuco, with 8,145 cases and 628 deaths; and Amazonas, with 6,062 cases and 501 deaths.
