British Prime Minister Admitted to Intensive Care Unit

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a London hospital on Monday afternoon, April 6th, where he is receiving treatment for Covid-19, including oxygen, according to the BBC.

He is conscious and he is not using an artificial ventilator. According to Sky News, the transfer was a preventive measure, in case he were to need the device.

Prime Minister Johnson, 55, was diagnosed with Covid-19 on March 27th.

Earlier, he used Twitter to report that he was in the hospital, under medical advice, for routine tests, but was in a good mood.

“I would like to thank the brilliant team in the public health system for taking care of me and the others during this difficult period. You are the best in the UK,” he said.

“Stay safe everyone, and please remember to stay at home to protect the NHS and save lives”, tweeted Boris Johnson #StayHomeSaveLives (@BorisJohnson) on April 6th.

Johnson should return to his office soon, Housing Minister Robert Jenrick said on Monday.

“He will remain in hospital as long as he needs to, but I’ve heard he’s doing well and I’m looking forward to getting him back to his office as soon as possible,” Jenrick told the BBC.
