RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Ice Cream heaven, packed beaches and plenty of heat. Friday, January 10th, was yet another January day of true Rio de Janeiro summer.
According to the city hall’s ‘Rio Alert’ system, the maximum temperature registered during the afternoon was 38 degrees (Celsius) at the Irajá measuring station, in the North Zone, where the ‘feels like’ temperature reached 48.6 degrees at 12:45 PM – the highest so far registered in 2020.
And the trend is for the heat to remain intense over the weekend: this Saturday, according to the ‘Rio Alert’, the maximum temperature may reach 39 degrees during the day, and the minimum 22 degrees.
As usual in the season there may be isolated rains during the late afternoon and at night. Sunday, when Rio’s official Carnival opening takes place, on the very stage where the New Year’s Eve was celebrated in Copacabana, the outlook should be the same as the previous day.
