‘Porta dos Fundos’ Headquarters Attacked with Molotov Cocktails in Rio

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The production company responsible for creating the videos of the humor group ‘Porta dos Fundos’ was attacked in the early hours of this Christmas Eve, in the neighborhood of Humaitá, South Zone of Rio.

According to the group’s press office, two Molotov cocktails were launched against the façade of the property.

The attack happened at 4 am. The fire was contained by a security guard who was in the building. Only the backyard and the reception were damaged by the act.

In a statement, the advisory group reported that ‘Porta dos Fundos’ condemns any act of hatred and violence and therefore has already made the images from the security cameras available to the authorities and hopes that those responsible for the attacks will be found and punished.

Controversy with Christmas Special

Religious groups are campaigning against the “Christmas Special: The first temptation of Christ”, in the air on Netflix since December 3rd. In the 46-minute film, Jesus (Gregorio Duvivier) is about to turn 30, and is surprised by a birthday party when he returns from the desert with his boyfriend, Orlando (Fábio Porchat).

The satire with a gay Jesus has aroused the wrath of some religious sectors, who ask for censorship of the production.

Since 2013, ‘Porta dos Fundos’ publishes Christmas specials in December. Last year’s film, “If you drink, don’t fall,” won Emmy International for best comedy in late November.

Update December 26th:  Alleged Fundamentalists Claim Bomb Attack on the ‘Porta dos Fundos’ Producer. Hooded and with distorted voices, three men who call themselves fundamentalists – the Brazilian fascists – claim that the ‘Porta dos Fundos’ is a Marxist group and that its goal is “to destroy our people, our belief, our immaterial heritage”.
