Church Wants Netflix to Compensate Each Person Offended by “Porta dos Fundos” Movie

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The movie sparked controversy on social media by portraying Jesus Christ as a homosexual, upsetting religious who soon petitioned for the movie to be removed from the platform, otherwise, they would stop subscribing to the streaming service.

Netflix ignored religious criticism and not only maintained the movie on its platform but also announced another Christmas Special in partnership with the humor channel for 2020.

The “Porta dos Fundos” also ignored the criticism and decided to make a new video ironizing the comments of evangelicals on social media.

Now, the National Council of Brazilian Pastors and Bishop Robson Rodovalho are demanding compensation of R$1,000 (US$250) for each person who felt insulted by the Netflix special.

According to Ricardo Hasson, the attorney who filed the suit, the aim of the claim is for the evangelical community to mobilize and appeal to justice since the request to withdraw the material from the platform proved insufficient.

The attorney further said that he does not consider the request for withdrawal from the humorous show as censorship, saying: “We understand that (the movie) has gone beyond the right to artistic expression”.
