Mother who Killed Homosexual son Sentenced to 25 Years Imprisonment in SP

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Jury trial sentenced manager Tatiana Ferreira Lozano Pereira to 25 years and eight months in prison, on Wednesday, November 27th, indicted for killing her own son, Itaberli Lozano, 17 years old, in Cravinhos, in the interior of São Paulo.

Days before the murder, the son had denounced the aggressions he suffered from his mother, who did not accept the fact that he was gay.

Two others involved in the crime, Victor Roberto da Silva and Miller da Silva Barissa, were each sentenced to 21 years and eight months in prison. The respective defense attorneys will be lodging appeals. The murder occurred in December 2016.

Itaberli had moved in with his grandmother after being beaten by his mother, but she lured him to her house under the pretext of making amends. In the property, with the help of the other two defendants, and a 16-year-old teenager, she subjected her son to a beating session and then stabbed him in the neck.

After realizing he was dead, Tatiana asked her husband, Itaberli’s stepfather, to help her get rid of the body. Her son’s body was taken to a cane field and set on fire.

Tatiana only notified the police of Itaberli’s disappearance eight days after the crime. Forensics was required to identify the partially charred body. During the proceedings, the Prosecutor’s Office argued that the murder had been motivated by homophobia, as the mother would not accept that her son was homosexual.

In a deposition, she went so far as to say that she “couldn’t stand him anymore,” complaining that her son would take men home and use drugs. Tatiana, however, always denied homophobia.
