‘Wish’ Platform Allows Payment in Six Interest-free Installments in Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Wish, the e-commerce platform, is expanding its payment options: it is now possible to pay for purchases over R$50 (US$13) on credit cards in up to six interest-free instalments. The marketplace is focused on cheap products from China, including clothing, accessories, headsets, and mobile phones.

In an announcement, Wish states that the payment by instalments on credit cards is now available as of Monday, November 4th, throughout Brazil through the iPhone, iPad and Android Apps. Still, in early November this should be extended to the web version.

The App alerts, however, that the option of payment in instalments may not immediately show up for some users, as it is being enabled for Brazilians “over time”.

The option to pay in instalments will be shown if the total amount in the cart is over R$50; in this case, payment in up to 6 interest-free instalments will be possible. Instalment payment can be carried out in a single credit card. There is no option to pay part of the amount by invoice and part by credit card.

Should users request a refund, the instalments already paid will be returned on the next invoice, and the following instalments will be cancelled. Should an issue arise, Wish recommends contacting Ebanx, a startup that processes its payments.

Wish already accepted payments by credit card, debit card, PayPal and bill of sale. “As one of the most popular e-commerce platforms in the country, we believe that the payment in instalments option will contribute to further increase our business in Brazil,” said Nicola Azevedo, General Manager of Wish for the Americas, in a statement.

Wish’s platform has over 80 million active users around the world and over a million vendors. It was founded in the USA in 2010 and began operations in Brazil in August 2017. According to the company, its global network of direct vendors “provides access to affordable, high-quality products to anyone with a smartphone”.
