Downtown Mall, in Barra da Tijuca, Features 50-Meter-Tall Christmas Tree

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – As it turns out, there will be no Christmas Tree in Rio de Janeiro’s Lagoa in 2019, but Barra da Tijuca has been filling this need. Last year was BarraShopping‘s Christmas Tree, and now the Downtown Mall is preparing for the inauguration of its Christmas Tree.

A special Christmas show, starting at 6 PM, will entertain visitors with fireworks and the arrival of Santa Claus.

Over 50 meters tall – the equivalent of a 17-story building – having 15 kilometers of LED strips and close to one million microlights, the tree will be lit on Friday, November 8th. The decoration will include traditional Christmas symbols and an immense array of lights.

The festive atmosphere will also be present in other areas of the mall. About 150 LED microlights, 300 lit pieces and nearly two kilometers of LED tubing will brighten up the central flowerbeds and gardens of the condominium.

To further enhance the Christmas mood, the central square will also be home to Santa Claus’ House, where children, adults, and pets will be able to take pictures with Kris Kringle, to delight Rio’s residents and tourists who are in the city during the end-of-the-year festivities.
