RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – “The spending on the president’s corporate cards is the highest since 2014,” says journalist Lauro Jardim, in his column for O Globo newspaper.
“Between February and September this year – the January invoice is not accounted for because it refers to 2018 – the Secretariat of Administration of the Palácio do Planalto, in charge of Bolsonaro’s expenses, has disbursed R$4.6 million (US$1.2 million) with his cards”, he points out.
“The amount is 24 percent higher than the R$3.7 million used in the same period last year; 55 percent higher than the R$2.9 million in 2017; 62 percent higher than the R$2.8 million in 2016 and 26 percent higher than the R$3.6 million in 2015. Protected by the national security law, the [president’s] purchases are confidential,” the journalist writes.
