Broadband Contracts in Brazil Increase 5.57 Percent in August

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The number of broadband contracts increased 5.57 percent in August, compared to the same period last year. The numbers were released yesterday, October 1st, by the National Telecommunications Agency (ANATEL) and they show that the month of August 2019 closed with 32,500,601 signed contracts, an increase of 1,713,855 contracts compared to August 2018.

Claro is the company that has first place in the market, with the largest number of contracts registered. The company, according to ANATEL, repored 9,543,849 households with contracts in August, which represents some 29.3 percent of the market.

In second place comes Vivo, with 7,295,427 customers and a 22.4 percent market share. Now undergoing judicial recovery, Oi occupies third place with 5,657,258 customers with contracts and 17.4 percent of the domestic market.

Providers of Small Ports (PPPs), companies that hold less than 5 percent of each retail market of telecommunications in which they operate, appear with 9,195,290 households with registered contracts and 28.3 percent share in the domestic market.

“Compared to August 2018, the PPP group showed the highest growth in fixed broadband, with an increase of 2,248,237 contracts (32.3 percent). Among the big companies, Claro registered an increase of 309,806 contracts (3.36 percent) and, on the other hand, Vivo and Oi presented a decline of 311,571 contracts (4.10 percent) and 511,415 contracts (8.29 percent), respectively, in the same period,” informed ANATEL.
