Criminals Invade Warehouse in Rio, Make Off With Truckload of Appliances

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Criminals robbed the Lojas Americanas distribution center on the Presidente Dutra Highway in Nova Iguaçu, a suburb of Rio de Janeiro, on Tuesday morning, October 1st.

The criminals drove in a truck with a cloned license plate and went in shooting. They forced local employees to refuel the vehicle and also a transporter truck that was in the courtyard but managed to escape only with the company’s vehicle.

The stolen truck was loaded with cell phones, TVs, fans and other appliances. At one point, there was gunfire with security guards, but they managed to escape.

The police were called in as there was information that one of the criminals had remained hidden in the area. The police scanned the warehouse building.

The Lojas Americanas distribution center is open 24 hours a day, so the criminals got there around 3 AM.

Company employees recognized the former employee of an outsourced company, who worked as an assistant, as one of the criminals.

Due to the robbery, cars that were scheduled to depart the distribution center at 4 AM and 5 AM remain on site.

The stolen truck they used to get to the distribution center was recovered and taken to the Nova Iguaçu police station.
