GDP Projected Growth for 2019 Remains at 0.87 Percent According to Central Bank

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The expectation of economic growth in 2019 remained at 0.87 percent, according to the Market Report ‘Focus’, released on Monday, September 30th, by the Central Bank. Four weeks ago, the high end of the estimate was the same.

For 2020, the financial market maintained the forecast of high Gross Domestic Product (GDP), up 2.00 percent. Four weeks ago, it was at 2.10 percent.

At the end of August, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) reported that the GDP for the second quarter of 2019 increased 0.4 percent in comparison to the first quarter.

Last week, the Central Bank updated, through the Quarterly Inflation Report (RTI), its projection for GDP in 2019, rising from 0.8 percent to 0.9 percent.

In the Focus report on Monday, the projection for industrial production in 2019 went from a low of 0.53 percent to 0.54 percent. A month ago, it was up 0.08 percent. In the case of 2020, the estimate of industrial production growth decreased from 2.29 percent to 2.10 percent, compared to 2.50 percent four weeks earlier.

The Focus survey also showed that the projection for the indicator that measures the relationship between the net public sector debt and the GDP for 2019 went from 56.05 percent to 56.30 percent. A month ago, it was at 56.39 percent. For 2020, the expectation went from 58 percent to 58.15 percent, compared to 58.50 percent a month ago.
