RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A State Police (PM) operation on Wednesday, September 18th, in the Complexo do Alemão left at least four suspects dead and one police officer seriously injured. The information was released by the police and the State Secretariat of Health.
The operation began early in the morning and relied on the support of a helicopter. The deployed personnel included the Special Operations Command (COE), Pacification Police Units (UPP), Canine Action Battalions (BAC), Shock Police (BPChq), Airborne Grouping (GAM) and Special Police Operations Battalion (BOPE).
“There was a clash. An officer was injured and [was] assisted at Getúlio Vargas Hospital. Five men were also injured and assisted. Three criminals with open warrants for drug trafficking were arrested,” the police said in a statement.
A rifle, four pistols, 47 explosives, 13 magazines, ammunition and tactical vests were seized, in addition to 141 kilos of marijuana, 177 small bags of marijuana, 860 parcels of cocaine, 4 kilos of cocaine and 68 crack rocks.
The aim of the operation was to suppress drug trafficking and reposition the armored cabins of the State Police installed in the region.
