Petrobras is Unlikely to Change Fuel Prices, Says Bolsonaro

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – President Jair Bolsonaro confirmed on Monday night, September 16th, that Petrobras will maintain the price of gasoline, despite the surge in the value of crude oil after the attacks on refineries in Saudi Arabia, which occurred over the weekend.

Bolsonaro said in an interview with RecordTV, who discussed the matter with the president of the state-owned company, Roberto Castello Branco.

Bolsonaro said that the inevitable trend would be to follow the international price, which “would come to the refinery, to the pump, at the end of the day”. “The federal government has already zeroed the CIDE federal tax (Contribution for Intervention in the Economic Domain).

“We can not demand anything from governors regarding ICMS (Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services),” said the president. “But I have spoken with the president of Petrobras and he said that, as this is something atypical and sui generis, he should not change the price of fuel,” said Bolsonaro.
