RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Sambista Elton Medeiros, known for the composition of ‘O Sol Nascerá’ in partnership with Cartola, died at the age of 89 in Rio de Janeiro. He was hospitalized at the Pinheiro Machado Health Center in the southern part of the city. At the family’s request, the hospital gave no information about the artist’s death.
In addition to Cartola, the samba dancer has partnered with artists such as Zé Ketti and Paulinho da Viola.
Singer Teresa Cristina spread a message on social networks in which she says that Medeiros was one of the “greatest melodists. Elton gave me a hard time. The last time was in Bial’s TV show when he corrected a note in ‘O Sol Nascerá’,” wrote the singer.
