RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Friday, 23rd, demonstrators organized several protests for the preservation of the Amazon in Brazilian embassies around the world. They gathered in cities such as London and Berlin and took posters against deforestation and forest fires.

Besides the British and German capitals, protests were also called in Mumbai, India; Paris, France; Bern, Switzerland; Amsterdam, Holland; Dublin, Ireland; Madrid and Barcelona, Spain; and Luxembourg.
The fires and deforestation of the biome have come to light in recent weeks, with data from Inpe (National Institute for Space Research) showing that the fires in Brazil increased 82 percent this year compared to the same period last year.
French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Canada’s Justin Trudeau, and Ireland’s Leo Varadkar called for the fires in the Amazon to be discussed at the G7 meeting this weekend in Biarritz, France.
