“A Porta Maldita” Festival Features Indie Rock Bands in São Paulo

SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL – Four leading figures from the independent rock scene come together on stage at Casa Quina on Saturday, August 10th. The venue is hosting the “A Porta Maldita” Festival, with concerts by the bands Meyot, Venus Wave, Zé Pereira, and O Grande Babaca featuring their acclaimed original works starting at 4:20 PM.

Admission is free until 5 PM, and R$20 (US$5) after that time.

Subverting the song format, the São Paulo the Meyot quartet is a collective of composers who perform as a rock band. Combining indie, jazz, krautrock, and Brazilian urban popular music from the seventies in their sound, in 2018 they released the debut album “Meiote.” Now, the band is getting ready to divulge new tracks. Among them is the most recent clip for the track “Grades.”

Formed in 2017, Meyot currently includes Arthur Montenegro (main vocals and guitar), Gabriel Soares (drums and percussion), Giuliam Uchima (bass, guitar, and vocals) and Lucas Berredo (guitar, vocals, synth, and bass). In addition to the album repertoire, they will perform unreleased songs that will feature on their first full-length album.

The Venus Wave band is a musical and authorial project influenced by the 60s and 70s psychedelic rock, stoner, and classic rock. Active since 2015, it brings a reinterpretation blending old and contemporary influences. The band consists of Julia Danesi (vocals), Manu Rodrigues (guitars), Camilla Araújo (bass) and Caroline Flores (drums).

Zé Pereira is a trio from São Paulo with musicians Felipe de Paula (vocals and guitar), Felippe Rodrigues (vocals and drums) and Lucas Pierri (vocals and bass). In 2017, the band released its first album, where it tours regional rhythms from the north and northeast. The band completes its line-up to the sound of “O Grande Babaca” playing its recently released video “Eu sou o rei.”

The “A Porta Maldita” Festival takes place at Casa Quina, located in the West Zone of São Paulo.
