RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Operation Mão Dupla (Two-way) was started yesterday, July 10th, by the Federal Police, to investigate the embezzlement of public funds, through overbilling in maintenance and conservation contracts for the BR-364 highway, in Rondônia State.
The investigations found that contracts were signed between the National Department of Transportation Infrastructure (DNIT) and the company under investigation, in an amount exceeding R$186 million (US$46.5 million).
There is evidence of civil servants facilitating the approval of the data presented by the company under investigation, services performed with substandard quality and payment for unexecuted services.
Federal police officers served seven arrest warrants and ten search and seizure warrants, issued by the federal court, at addresses in the states of Rondônia and Acre.
In addition to the warrants, a freeze was ordered on more than R$10 million on funds payable to the company under investigation.
