Brazilian National Team is Also a Gate Receipts Champion: Almost R$44 Million

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Brazilian National Team won its 9th Copa América title on Sunday, July 7th, at the Maracanã stadium. The 3-1 win over Peru also served to fatten the Brazilian Football Confederation’s (CBF) bank accounts.

The prize awarded to the champion is US$7.5 million (about R$28.6 million). In addition to this amount, there is a bonus of US$4 million for participating in the national teams’ competition.

Runner-up Peru had the second-largest revenued from the Copa América: US$9 million, followed by Argentina with US$8 million.

The Brazil vs. Peru match also set a record for income in this Copa América. The amount received was R$38,769,850 (about US$9.7 million), the highest in Brazilian soccer history. The paying public totaled 58,584 supporters, and the total number of people in attendance was 69,986.

Up to this Sunday, the highest income ever released in the country was R$22,476,630, recorded in Brazil’s victory by 3-0 over Bolivia in the Morumbi stadium, at the inauguration of this continental competition.
