São Paulo State to Build Monorail Shuttle to Guarulhos Airport

By Contributing Reporter

SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL – The Governor of São Paulo, João Doria (PSDB), announced this Tuesday, May 28th, the construction of a monorail line to connect the Metrô’s No. 13 Jade Line Airport station and the terminals of Guarulhos International Airport. The line is expected to be fully operational by May 2021.

R$175 (US$44) million will be invested by the GRU Airport concession holder. This amount will be funded by the grant awarded by the state government.

Works should begin in September of this year and take 18 months. Operation costs, between R$60 and R$70 million annually, will also be funded by the grant.

Currently, CPTM’s 13-Jade Line provides routes that take passengers to Guarulhos Airport station; from there, however, a bus must be taken to airport terminals.

There is also the Expresso Airport line, which leaves Luz station and now also runs on weekends starting this Saturday, 25th.

According to Governor Doria, the No. 13 Jade Line will become a monorail only on the stretch from the train station to the airport.

The forecast is that travel time between Avenida Paulista and the airport will be 52 minutes and 43 minutes between the Luz station and the airport.
