PARTY:
Rio Madness Boat Party @ New Mariuzinn Copacabana (Copacabana) – If you like partying in unusual places, then why not climb aboard the Rio Madness Boat Party at Copacabana’s New Mariuzinn nightclub?

You’ll be able to start the festivities on dry land, as New Mariuzinn throw a pre-party for one hour with an open bar until midnight, then its onto the boat with a free transfer, mini-pizzas and the best carioca funk, hip-hop and pop courtesy of the resident DJs Guga Fernandes and DJ Caue.

Tickets are R$100 all-inclusive and the night kicks off at 10 PM.

LIVE:
Balé Nacional da China @ Theatro Municipal (Centro) – Ballet fans rejoice! For the National Ballet of China is back in Brazil for the first time since 2010.

You’ll be in for a spectacle as the company performs “Red Lantern”, based on the film by acclaimed Oscar-nominated filmmaker Zhang Yimou. Prepare to be wowed as seventy dancers from China’s most prestigious ballet company will be filling the stage for a breathtaking spectacle.

Tickets are from R$50, and the performance begins at 8 PM.

Quartetinho @ Dumont Arte Bar (Gávea) – Come and see Quartetinho, one of the best young MPB (Popular Brazilian Music) bands, joined by special guests Julia Mestre, Theozin, and Julia Nadanovsky for a night of Brazilian grooves.

If you’re a fan of classical Brazilian music such as Villa-Lobos, Hermeto Pascoal, Céu, Chico Buarque, Gonzaga, Ary Barroso, and Cartola, then head down and see this quintet play with skill and authenticity that belies their youthful appearance.

Tickets are R$20 and the evening gets underway at 8 PM.

LOUNGES, BARS & PUBS:

Mississippi Delta Blues Bar (Gamboa)
As the name suggests, this is the place to go in Rio for live American-style blues music. Coupled with a Soul Food-inspired menu (their mac’n’cheese is excellent), plenty of bourbons, crafts beers, and a pool table, this place makes for an atmospheric hangout, whether there’s a band playing (and there usually is) or just the jukebox.

Symposium Bistro (Laranjeiras)
Run by Uruguayan expat José Hodara, the bistro offers the best national and international labels, which can be accompanied by a selection of cheeses, sausages or a main dish, like the majestic Uruguayan chorizo beef.

Pub Escondido (Copacabana)
