We have the top three picks for this Friday, and below there is a list of bars and lounges that are always a good option.

PARTY:
O Carnaval Nunca Acaba @ MAM Rio (Flamengo) – This super Carnival party is going to be bringing four ‘blocos’ (street parties) to MAM Rio: Sereias da Guanabara, Tocoxona, New Kids on The Bloco and Bloco Que pena, amor.

Arlequeens (DJ Bruna Strait – DJ Glitterada) and Dan Mattos will also be supplying the tunes. There will also be an open bar with Smirnoff vodka, gin and tonics, Amstel beer, and much more.

The evening starts at 9PM and tickets are R$60.

PARTY:
Auê : Sexta @ HUB RJ (Santo Cristo) – Auê is a celebration of Carnival that is going to be huge, at Rio’s latest mega club and music space, HUB RJ.

The party will include live performances courtesy of Letrux and ÀTTØØXXÁ. Plus DJs such as OMULU, Ju Perez, Yasmin Vilhena, DJ Tamy, and Silvio M will be playing heavy sets throughout the night and early morning. And until midnight there will also be two-for-one on beer.

Tickets are R$20 and the night starts at 10PM.

Auê : Sexta – Avenida Professor Pereira Reis, 50 – Santo Cristo

PARTY:
Carnaval Medieval @ Castle of Vibe (Lapa) – This is set to be quite a party with Lapa’s Castle of Vibe decking its dancefloor with chains, armor, replicas of torches and much more to bring the medieval atmosphere to Carnival.

There’s also a premium open bar including Heineken and Antarctica beers, plus cocktails and much more. The music will come courtesy of DJ D3 and DJ Gaelle, and there will even be a costume contest for best medieval outfits!

Tickets are between R$40-R$80 and the night starts at 11PM.

LOUNGES, BARS & PUBS:

Winehouse (Botafogo)
Winehouse is a wine bar run by a British expat that has brought an eclectic range of wines to Rio including a mix of fabulous national wines and international favorites. There is also a great selection of nibbles and cheese boards. For those that aren’t too keen on wine, there is plenty of beer and cocktail options too. Happy hour begins at 5PM and finishes at 8PM.

Void/House of Food (Botafogo)
Blending culinary, drinks and fashion, the bar/store invites a different chef to prepare a new menu every week. Besides great imported beer labels, it usually serves delicious veggie food and homemade burgers.

Pavão Azul (Copacabana)
Pavão Azul is a lively bar in Copacabana, famous for its exceptionally cold beers and prawn pastels. It gets crowded there every night, making every day of the week seem like the weekend.

Canastra Bar (Ipanema)
The Canastra Wine Bar in Ipanema offers a great selection of wines and cheeses and is quickly becoming known for its nice atmosphere and friendly service.

Blue Agave (Ipanema)
Blue Agave Ipanema is always a great place for Mexican food, drinks and for watching live sport streams and broadcasts. Just around the corner from Posto 9, the bar is also known for its mostly English-speaking staff and crowd which frequents the establishment. Be sure to check out Blue Agave in Copacabana also for a great night out.
