We have the top three picks for this Thursday, and below there is a list of bars and lounges that are always a good option.

LIVE:
Rodrigo Sha @ Coordenadas Bar (Botafogo) – This Thursday, Coordenadas Bar hosts Rodrigo Sha, with his new show Visceral. Singer, composer and instrumentalist, Sha has played seven instruments over his twenty-year career.

During this time, he has played with great Brazilian music artists such as Bebel Gilberto, Leo Jaime, Ritchie, Blitz, Kid Bee, Seu Jorge. For his new project, Sha has invited his musical friends: Lancaster Pinto on bass and Kadu Menezes on drums. The show will also feature the participation of Daniel Shadow and João Felippe!

Tickets are between R$15-R$20 and the show starts at 9PM.

PARTY:
Veneno Disco Club @ Casa da Matriz (Botafogo) – Expect plenty of pop, rock, and indie hits from the eighties and nineties at this Halloween themed party.

Back from the land of the dead for a special edition, a poisonous antidote to this sombre pre-election climate, DJs Beto Artista & Sal will get the crowd jumping and forgetting their woes. Multiplex will be on the second dancefloor.

Entry is free until 12:30AM if you put your name on the facebook event page wall. Otherwise it’s R$15 with your name on the event page wall after 12:30PM, or R$20 normal price. The night gets going at 11PM.

Jão @ Teatro Riachuelo (Centro) – Considered one of the most promising names in Brazilian pop and MTV Award winner in the category that celebrates the best new domestic music, Jão is touring the country with his debut album ‘Lobos.’

Born in the interior of São Paulo, Jão was discovered on the internet and soon began making his own music in partnership with Head Media and Universal Music. In August of this year, he released ‘Lobos’ after the huge success of his first singles ‘Imaturo’ (Immature) and ‘Vou Morrer Sozinho’ (I’m going to die alone).

Tickets are between R$25 – R$90 and the show starts at 9:30PM

If you want to hear some great live music while drinking some quality imported beers in a welcoming environment with a friendly crowd, this the place to go.

Run by Uruguayan expat José Hodara, the bistro offers the best national and international labels, which can be accompanied by a selection of cheeses, sausages or a main dishes, like the majestic Uruguayan chorizo beef.

Winehouse (Botafogo)
Winehouse is a wine bar run by a British expat that has brought an eclectic range of wines to Rio including a mix of fabulous national wines and international favorites. There is also a great selection of nibbles and cheese boards. For those that aren’t too keen on wine, there is plenty of beer and cocktail options too. Happy hour begins at 5PM and finishes at 8PM.

Pub Escondido (Copacabana)
Those into the pub atmosphere will also love Pub Escondido, a discrete venue with premium beer labels, modern design and a really cool vibe. The pub offers 24 different beer taps, which includes the house’s draught beer, Escondido Weiss, made of wheat.

Blue Agave (Ipanema)
Blue Agave Ipanema is a great place for good Mexican food, drinks and live sports. It also has English-speaking staff and is a popular expat hangout. Be sure to check out Blue Agave in Copacabana also for a great night out.
