We have the top three picks for this Monday, and below there is a list of bars and lounges that are always a good option.

LIVE:
Slam RJ 2018 @ Circo Voador (Lapa) – The championships of spoken poetry, Slam poetry – better known in Brazil only as Slam – has become popular in favela communities as a form of resistance and occupation of public space.

Since 2017, with the spread of slams in Brazil, the need to create state stages prior to the National Speech Poetry Championship, the Slam BR, has emerged. And so we are going to the second edition of SlamRJ. This edition will pick the regional participant for this year’s SlamBR, which selects the person to compete at the World Cup in France the following year.

The event will begin at 7PM but there is currently no information about ticket prices.

Slam RJ 2018 – Avenida Mem de Sá – Lapa

PARTY:
The Glow Party! @ New Mariuzinn (Copacabana) – This is the Monday night party in Rio’s famous Copacabana neighborhood, with free caipirinhas until midnight, random tequila shots, and special promotions on beers and vodka energy drinks.

The music for the night will feature a live samba act. Then DJ Caue Campean, the resident DJ, will be spinning some house, hiphop and reggaeton, followed by DJ Dluccio who will spin everything from pop, to trap, to deep house.

If you’re looking for an upscale, big club experience, this promises to be the ticket. The dancefloor will be immersed in black light and they will be handing out everything from glow paint to glow bracelets and much more. The party starts at 11PM and tickets are between R$40-R$60.

LIVE:
Caravana Cigana do Blues @ Smoke Lounge (Tijuca) – This is an exciting new project starting in Tijuca’s famous Smoke House. Caravana Cigana do Blues was formed through an encounter between musicians in three bands from the carioca blues scene: Laranjeletric, Sonja and Big Phat Mama.

Made up of Marcus Kenyatta (guitarist), Marco Lacerda (singer and guitarist), Sonja (singer), David Taveira (harmonica) and Eduardo Souto Maior (drums), the group’s formation can vary from three to seven members, depending on the song. Their repertoire covers the classics of Robert Johnson, Son House, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Willie Dixon, Howlin’ Wolf, and Muddy Waters, among others.

In 2018, the Caravana launched its first EP and has since been invited to participate in the selection for TV Globo’s “Superstar” program. They also participated in the line up of festivals such as Rio Rock Blues Festival (2017), Barra Blues Festival (2017), Aldeia Rock Festival (2018) and also the internationally renowned Rio das Ostras Jazz & Blues Festival (2018).

The music starts at around 7PM and there is an suggested artistic cover of R$10.
