ArtRio’s CIGA Festival Opens its Doors this Monday and Tuesday

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – On Monday, September 24th, and Tuesday, September 25th, from 5PM to 9PM, selected galleries will be opening their doors across Rio for a special program of exhibitions, talks and more, as part of ArtRio’s CIGA – ‘Circuito Integrado de Galerias de Arte’ (Integrated Circuit of Art Galleries).

This is the first event of ArtRio week 2018, and CIGA’s mission is to encourage people to visit the city’s smaller art galleries, besides the well-known museums and cultural centers.

“Our focus is, during ArtRio week, to have an extensive art program in the entire city, capable of reaching different audiences. The CIGA is one of these initiatives, encouraging the public to visit these galleries and spaces,” states Brenda Valansi, president of ArtRio.

On Monday, September 24th, in Copacabana, many galleries will be opening their doors, with the Artur Fidalgo galeria hosting an exhibition of unpublished works by Guga Ferraz; while the Galeria Patricia Costa will be exhibiting nine works by the artist Luiz Aquila; Movimento Arte Contemporânea will be hosting the exhibition ‘Massas’ (Crowds) by Arthur C. Arnold; and Espaço Cultural M.D. Gotlib will be opening the collective exhibition ‘Brota Vidas’ (Life Springs).

In Ipanema, Cassia Bomeny Galeria hosts the exhibition ‘Fora da Palavra’ (Out of the Word) by Hilal Sami Hilal, while Galeria de Arte Ipanema is showing ‘O frescor da luminosidade’ (The freshness of light) which honors the artists Alfredo Volpi and Ione Saldanha.

Also in Ipanema, Simone Cadinelli Arte Contemporânea will host the solo exhibition ‘Colapsos’ (Collapes) by Claudio Tobinaga. There will be further exhibitions at Gaby Indio da Costa Arte Contemporânea and Samba Arte Contemporânea, both in São Conrado, and Mul.ti.plo Espaço Arte and Lurixs Arte Contemporânea, in Leblon.

Tuesday, September 25th, will see Botafogo opening up its galleries, with an exhibition at Athena Contemporânea, a solo exhibition by Finnish artist Kari Cavén at Cavalo, and a retrospective by Flávio Shiró at Pinakotheke; while the art collective Molt Bé! will be taking over the space at Portas Vilaseca Galeria.

In Jardim Botânico, Carpintaria will be exhibiting works by the Brazilian artist Iran do Espírito Santo and American artist Fred Sandback. Gávea’s galleries will also be opening their doors; the Anita Schwartz Galeria is presenting the solo exhibition ‘Os olhos cheios de terra’ (The Eyes Full of Earth) by Rodrigo Braga, and Galeria Paçoca is showing a solo exhibition by the artist Smael.

There will also be exhibitions at Marquês 456, Mercedes Viegas Arte Contemporânea, and Galeria Silvia Cintra + Box 4. Galeria do Lago, in Catete, and Galeria Oriente, in Glória, will also be showing exhibitions by Raul Mourão and Thiago Barros, respectively.
