We have the top three picks for this Friday, and below there is a list of bars and lounges that are always a good option.

PARTY:
Rockbash #3 @ Casa da Matriz (Botafogo) – This Friday is the third edition of Rockbash, ready for another rock ‘n roll night!

With rock of all kinds, going through all the decades, to dance to, to sing to, and to keep you on the dancefloor until the early hours.

On floor one will be songs for those that like to party. Classics, grunge, eighties, nineties and indie rock.

DJing will be Grazzia (Rockaway e Festa Sex Tape), Arlei Machado (Clube dos 30), Rataus (Divergências), Beto Artista (Crush) and Luana Paiva (MOB).

On floor two is Karaoke indie, where you can sing over 8,000 classic rock tunes, from the Strokes to Lana Del Rey to Pearl Jam and the Rolling Stones.

Whoever arrives between 11PM-12PM can take advantage of a double serving of Czech premium lager.

Tickets are between R$10-R$40 and the night gets going at 11PM.

DRINKS:
Caipi Sexta @ Caminhos Language Centre (Ipanema) – Once a month, Caminhos language centre sets up shop on the street and throws a hugely popular street party outside its building.

This is a place where students past and present, teachers, friends and many other expats all congregate to drink Caipirinhas and start the weekend with a bang.

All caipirinhas are only $5 reais with students getting their first drink for free.

Except to meet plenty of friendly and interesting people speaking both English, Portuguese and many other languages. The party starts at 5PM but then usually moves to the popular Ipanema bar, Canastra, and then sometimes even onto legendary jazz club, the Maze.

This is a cheap, cheerful and sociable way to start the weekend.

Caipi Sexta – Rua Farme de Amoedo, 135 – Ipanema

LIVE:
Maneva & Onze 20 @ Fundição Progresso (Lapa) – The ‘Encontro Das Tribos’ (Tribal Encounter) is here to get Lapa moving, featuring the bands Maneva, Onze 20 and Gabriel Elias for a huge night of reggae.

Running for more than twelve years, the ‘Encontro Das Tribos’ (Tribal Encounter) is a daily radio program and also the largest young music festival in Brazil, bringing together the greatest artists and bands of the national scene in a single event.

Maneva are a reggae band from São Paulo with a huge following, while Onze 20, another reggae band, have millions of fans on social networks (about 3 million) and almost 300 million views on youtube alone. They will be launching their new album ‘Historias pra contar’ (Stories to tell). Gabriel Elias, who plays acoustic reggae, will be opening the show and should set the tone nicely with his brand of introspective rhythms.

The evening starts at 10PM and tickets are available from R$50.
