The Rio Times, Nightlife Guide, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Nightlife, Bars, Clubs

We have the top three picks for this Thursday, and below there is a list of bars and lounges that are always a good option.

JAZZ:
Robertinho Silva celebrates his 77th birthday at Blue Note (Lagoa) – Blue Note has a world-wide reputation for bringing the big names of jazz to Rio.

But how about bringing on stage one of the biggest names in Brazilian music to celebrate his 77th birthday with a host of famous and talented friends?

Roberinho Silva is a renowned composer, drummer and percussionist, who has played with some of the greatest musicians from Brazil and beyond, including, but not limited to Milton Nascimento, Gal Costa, Roberto Carlos, Gilberto Gil, Peggy Lee and Sarah Vaughan.

This evening, from 9PM onwards, Silva will be taking to the stage with a host of his friends and collaborators, such as Joao Donato, José de Arimatéa, Carlos Malta, Claudio Dauelsberg and Jefferson Lescowich, to celebrate his birthday by playing songs from throughout his career and life.

BBQ AND DRINKS:
Montenegro Barbecue Night with Mate Shine (Ipanema) – On the bustling street of Rua Vinícius de Moraes, right next to Blue Agave, is Montenegro. A purveyor of fine quality meats, they are putting on a free barbecue tonight from 7PM until 2AM.

Not only will there be delicious food, there will also be beers a plenty, in the form of choppes (draft beers) of excellent artisanal brand Noi – plus, the Montenegro crowd are going all out and offering Mate Shine too. This is a devilish new blend of mate (a Brazilian iced tea-style drink), vodka and lemon.

This event would be a great way to start the evening, get that all important lining in your stomach, and then nip next door to the always accomodating Blue Agave and see where the night takes you!

With its location in Lapa, there are plenty of bars to visit before entering, as this is known as one of Rio’s most bohemian neighborhoods.
