The Shell Open Air experience revived in 2017 and has returned due to popular demand. Nearly all of its 22 films shown this year have been sell-outs, so it will be no surprise if it returns next year for another run.

Tonight, Thursday, May 31st, the event presents the 1991 epic adventure ‘Thelma & Louise’ by director Ridley Scott. An American youtuber and journalist from Chicago living in Rio, Kiratiana Freelon, shares, “Thelma & Louise is one of my favorite movies. I love the independence of the women in the movie, so I’m definitely going to check it out.”

The two films on Friday, June 1st, will be aimed at a family audience, with ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,’ a popular reboot of the original Robin Williams’ classic, screening at 6PM and Stephen Speilberg’s latest blockbuster ‘Ready Player One’ showing at 9PM.

On Saturday one certified cult classic and one modern epic will be sure to entertain an older crowd. Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning ‘Dunkirk,’ which even has a guest appearance from recent visitor to the city, Harry Styles, is showing at 8PM. While the Coen Brothers’ legendary ‘The Big Lebowski’ will be the weekend’s midnight showing, starting at ten minutes past midnight.

Finally, something for all the family as Sunday at 6PM will see Julie Andrews’ classic performance in one of the all time great musicals, ‘The Sound of Music.’

There is also a wide variety of high-quality food available at Marina da Glória at the film screenings, including Al Taglio’s pizzaria, Che Boludo’s Argentinian empanadas and Berliner House’s German cuisine.
