After a successful first edition during Rio 2016 Olympics, the “Memórias do Esporte” audiovisual exhibition will remain on display through October 1st, photo internet recreation.

“Memórias do Esporte”, which was first promoted during the Rio 2016 Olympic and attracted over twenty thousand visitors, is back for a second edition.

The curators have divided the exhibition in three different formats. The first one, dedicated to audiovisual historical records, brings thirty unreleased films about sport to Correios. All of the productions have been displayed in 116 countries.

In the second format, “Memórias do Esporte” showcases diverse historical equipment used by international and Brazilian athletes, including notorious surfer Rico de Souza’s six long boards; the 1920 pistol used by shooting athlete Guilherme Paraense, the first Brazilian medalist in the Olympics; and the first female olympic marathon medal, conquered by Eleonora Mendonça in 1984.

This part of “Memórias do Esporte” also exhibits emblematic objects for the sport’s world history, like the first tennis rackets used in an international tournament, a bicycle from the 1920s, surf boards from the 1930s and a rowing boat from the end of the nineteenth century.

“Our mission is showing to the audience the 120 year-old stimulating relation between cinema and sports. We mix rare historical films to epic productions, pleasing all types of audience, from surfers to researchers”, says J.J. Soares and J.C. Soares, filmmakers and curators of ‘Memórias do Esporte”.

The exhibit’s third core is dedicated to the virtual reality, where both adults and children are invited to play interactive games and learn more about the sports’ world history.

All of the displayed objects and films are part of Federation Internationale de Cinema and Television Sportif’s collections. The project is sponsored by Rio’s City Hall and Rio’s City Culture Bureau, and has the support of SporTV, Correios, Guanabara Films and the Olympic Channel.
