RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – According to an annual survey by TripAdvisor through its international and national users, once again the State of Rio de Janeiro is recognized for its beauties. Cabo Frio, Arraial do Cabo, Angra dos Reis and Niterói, are among the municipalities chosen for the Travelers’ Choice award for the 25 best beaches in Brazil.
The beaches chosen were: Forno and Pontal do Atalaia, in Arraial do Cabo; Farol and Forte, in Cabo Frio; Lopes Mendes, in Ilha Grande, Angra dos Reis, and Itacoatiara, in Niterói.
According to government news sources, Rio’s secretary of tourism, Nilo Sergio Felix, celebrated the award, mainly because the evaluations are made by locals, and tourists who use indications of the site to determine their travel itineraries.
“We have worked hard to promote and publicize our destinations within the state through the Rio+3 program. We know the potential of the State of Rio de Janeiro. The prize is a huge recognition of the great diversity offered to travelers,” said Nilo Sergio Felix.
American-Brazilian Evan Farr, of the Jinga Experience adventure tourism company based in Rio de Janeiro explained the survey results. “[It] comes as no surprise. The Costa Verde in its entirety is simply breathtaking. Each beach seems to be more beautiful than the next. Green mountain backdrops, large stretches of soft white sand, and clear blue water. What more could one ask for?”
In terms of what Farr’s personal favorite is, he shares, “Praia do Farol is an absolute stunner. It has crystal clear water, soft white sand and small dunes enclosing it. It is totally isolated and can only be accessed by boat. It has to be one of the best beaches I’ve ever been to.”
Created in 2002, Travelers’ Choice also awards beaches, hotels, accommodations, destinations, brands and products, both in Brazil and worldwide. Winners are selected annually based on ratings from thousands of TripAdvisor members.
