RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Away from the crowds descending in Rio de Janeiro at the four Olympic Zones where the Games are being held, is an oasis of colonial charm unique to the bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa. The Mansion, as the three-story Portuguese colonial home is named, offers an idilic sense of Rio’s historic luxury.
The events held at the venue during the Olympics is called “The Mansion Sem Fronteiras” (Without Borders), and involves a caipirinha workshop, samba lectures and performances, capoeira classes and presentations and drum workshop.
French expatriate in Rio, Jean Christophe, a founder of the event explains, “It is an opportunity for locals and visitors to intimately experience different aspects of Brazilian culture.”
He adds, “Whether through music, food or the activities offered at the event, all the attractions are designed to captivate the audience with the charms of Brazil’s green, blue and yellow.”
Upon arriving guests will be enchanted by The Mansion‘s ample space, and the classic ambiance adorned by works of modern art. Adding to the aura, it it surrounded by native flora and fauna of the Atlantic Forest with amazing views of Guanabara Bay, Sugarloaf Mountain and Christ the Redeemer.
The Mansion Sem Fronteiras event will be open every day until August 21st from 10AM, with activities as well as the opportunity to taste iconic Brazilian dishes crafted by chef Mariana Vidal. The chef has prepared a special menu inspired by his book “Saboreando o Rio” (Savoring Rio), with menu highlights of Baião de Dois (Baião Two) and Moqueca de Peixe (fish stew).
In addition, the event also brings a new “pop-up” imported from New York hotspot, the Mulberry Project, which offers signature drinks with an American accent, but adapted to local ingredients. Along with drinks, ethnic foods and the various activities, the varied program also offers live music shows and DJs.
It is not the first time The Mansion has brought a chic pop-up to Rio, they had also invited the ultra-hip restaurant Fat Radish in New York during the 2014 World Cup period.
Although The Mansion in in Santa Teresa, the easiest access is by taking Rua Alice, in Laranjeiras. Visitors can come by bus, but a taxi or Uber car will be more comfortable.
