pedra do salMonday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – The Roda de Samba is back at Pedra do Sal tonight. Group members Rogerinho Familia, Walmir Pimentel, Pc Correa, Wando Azevedo, Juninho Silva, Peterson Vieira, and Junior Travassos host the event every Monday night, weather permitting, beginning at 6PM.

The Roda de Samba or samba circle takes place on Pedra do Sal (Rock of Salt) in the Saúde neighborhood of Centro near Praça Mauá and the port. The area is historic as it’s where the first African immigrants from Bahia settled in Rio in the early 17th century and where the first Carioca samba was developed and performed by samba legends Heitor dos Prazeres, Pixinguinha, Donga and João da Bahiana.

The weekly Roda de Samba events are known for their casual and easygoing atmosphere with people dancing well into the night.
