RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Carioca Cricket Club (CCC) is rounding off 2015 with holiday drinks at the Lord Jim pub in Ipanema starting at 7:30 PM this Friday, December 11th.  End-of-season awards will be handed out and there will be a mini quiz as well as a chance to look back on the past twelve months.

“It has been a very busy and successful year for the CCC which is largely down to the hard work of the committee members,” says club president Craig Allison. “We are already looking forward to a successful 2016 and to continue growing cricket in Rio de Janeiro.”

Memberships boomed for the CCC in 2015, growing by more than four hundred percent. They also completed a tour to Brasília to play in an early round of the National Cricket Championship, as well hosting the final which was on of the biggest and most successful competitions in years. Three matches were played simultaneously on the same ground for the first time ever in Brazil.

A new bowling machine arrived early in the year which marked the beginning of some improvements for the club. At their home ground at São Fernando Polo and Cricket Club, near Itaguaí, a new clubhouse and tennis court were built. The spot is popular for both players and spectators with many activities, such as swimming and mini-golf, on offer apart from cricket. Matches are usually accompanied by a hearty churrasco (barbecue).

The team’s players have been going from strength to strength. Many of them returned just recently from their first international tour, this time to Bogotá in Colombia. Earlier in the year four players were picked to play for the Brazilian National team, adding to the four who have been chosen in previous years. Meanwhile the club has been actively and successfully recruiting more Brazilian cricketers to play alongside the expatriate club members.

Everyone is welcome to the event on Friday. For more details, please check Facebook.
