RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The second edition of the Girls in Tech event will take place in Rio de Janeiro at the Olabi Makerspace in Botafogo on Wednesday, December 2nd. Free to the public, the event will feature a talk by Ana Luisa Santos, co-founder of e-learning platform MobGeek, about digital entrepreneurship, programming and her time at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
“Culturally, most women feel like they are a part of this technological universe, however the technology behind it is the most powerful tool to expand impact and to develop projects,” Monique Corrêa, spokesperson for Girls in Tech in Rio de Janeiro and co-founder of PetRoomie, a pet care and space-sharing community stated in a release.
Adding, “We understand that it’s important to bring men and women together to talk about the topic, to collaborate on projects and, moreover, to show examples of female success, because if you do not know it’s possible to get there, many often give up before trying.”
During the event, Girls in Tech will also welcome five preselected entrepreneurs to pitch their ideas to possible partners, investors and clients. Those interested in participating can find more information on the Girls in Tech – Rio page.
Founded in 2007 by American Adriana Gascoigne, Girls in Tech (GiT) is an international non-profit initiative that promotes women in the tech industry. Now present in over eighteen countries, GiT was launched in Brazil in June of 2013 in São Paulo and has been hosting activities in Rio de Janeiro since August of this year.
