Arte Core 2015, Urban Art Fest Returns to Rio this Weekend

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Celebrating the best of urban culture with art exhibitions, DJs, live musical performances, workshops, and skateboarding expositions and contests, the Arte Core urban festival returns to Rio de Janeiro for its third edition this weekend on Friday, October 23rd and will continue through Sunday, October 25th.

Works by urban artist DMS will be on display during the 2015 edition of Arte Core, promotional imagine.

The free festival will take place again in the central span and outer area of the Museu de Arte Moderna (Museum of Modern Art), better known as MAM. Following an opening party for guests only on Friday, the main activities will be held on Saturday, October 24th and Sunday, October 25th between 10AM and 8PM each day.

The art on display during this edition of the festival was once again curated by Rio’s Homegrown Gallery and will include works and panels by urban and graffiti artists Ananda Nahu, Bruno BIG, DMS, Felipe Morozine, Gais AMA, João LELO, Kovok Crew, Leo Uzai, Marcelo Ment, Rodrigo Branco, Ronaldo Land, TARM, Talita Hoffmann, Vagner Donasc and Fernando Chamarell.

Additionally, returning for the third year, the Sneakers BR exhibit will illustrate the history of sneakers and their importance in street culture and links to various subcultures. There will also be photo exhibition of works by Henrique Madeira and Felipe Diniz.

The Só Pedrada Musical events of the festival were curated by DJ Daniel Tamenpi and will feature two days of live performances and DJ sets. On Saturday, the Coletivo Vinil é Arte with Marcello MBgroove and Tuta will start the day at 12PM by spinning vinyl records. Marcelinho da Lua will follow at 2:30 PM and São Paulo native Tahira will spin at 4PM. Then at 5:30 PM, the São Paulo group Mental Abstrato with Tassia Reis, will perform live and DJ Tamenpi will spin beginning at 6:30 PM to close out the first day of events.

DJ Tamenpi will spin on both Saturday and Sunday, promotional image.

On Sunday, Interferência Sound System will start the day at 12PM, followed by São Paulo’s Beatwise Recordings at 2PM. Eletrobase with Saci and Lulinha will provide the music beginning at 4PM and Opalão 76 with Saddam and Pachu will spin beginning at 5:15 PM. Shawlin, aka Cachorro Magro, will perform live at 6:30 PM and DJ Tamenpi will return to spin beginning at 7:15 PM to close out this year’s festival.

Additional festival activities include live painting with Bruno Big at 4PM on Saturday and Baixo Artes Core, a pre-party with DJs from 8PM to 12AM. On both Saturday and Sunday, the Espaço Rabisco (Scribble Space) will return with graffiti workshops at 10AM and 12PM.

Additionally there will be skateboarding workshops presented by the Carma Skate Shop on both days from 10AM to 12PM. The I Love XV skate collective will perform throughout the festival and there will be a best trick contest from 4PM to 5PM.
