The popular monthly Rio fair also known as BFH, began in Rio over eighteen years ago as a way to showcase creative up-and-coming fashion brands and art and as a way to provide Rio residents with a new option for interesting and different things to do during the weekend.

Inspired by European fairs and wanting to seeing more diverse fashion in the city, actor, filmmaker and Carioca (Rio resident) Robert Guimarães and São Paulo native and then art producer Fernando Molinari created the fair in 1996.

“Our idea at the time was to facilitate changes in habits for the consumption of fashion and art in Rio,” Guimarães told The Rio Times in 2014. “We started it as a a challenge to learn how to be fashionable. We wanted to help consumers put together their styles more creatively without using only famous labels.”

During the almost two decades since its creation, BFH has held approximately four hundred editions that combined, have attracted over 3.5 million attendees, according to organizers. The fair has helped to launch thousands of brands, many of which has since become chains, including Farm, Via Mia, Espaço Fashion, Reserva, Constança Basto, Zizane, Foxton, and Alessa among others

With items ranging from men’s and women’s fashions, to shoes to handbags, to accessories and home decorations, brands in this weekend’s edition will include Doce Maria, Garage Vintage, Tenho que Ter, Tamanho Único, Lollapalu, D. Factory, Joviane, Leila Boavista, Herus, Cacti, Touts, Quase Nada Fútil, Studio Lily’s Garden Truck, Efeito Borboleta, MIG Jeans, Fafá Barzar, and Paula Acioli.

Additionally during the event, The Espaço Hype Gourmet (The Hype Gourmet) will host food and beverage vendors including Gan Tea, Gusto Sonheria, Los Churritos, and Creperia Mon Petit.
