Tickets for Rio’s Paralympics to Go On Sale on September 7th

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Tickets for the 2016 Paralympic Games, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro two weeks after the Olympic Games from September 7-18, 2016, will go on sale on September 7th. Similar to the Olympic ticket process, the first round will be decided by lot and successful orders will be announced in October.

Ticket orders can be placed online with prices ranking between R$10 and R$130. There will be 3.3 million tickets available for the 23 different modalities of paralympic sports. Prices for the opening and closing ceremonies vary between R$100 and R$1,200.

The athletics competition start with prices of R$20 in the lowest category for the preliminary rounds. The athletics superfinal costs up to R$110. Prices for judo rank between R$30 and R$70, while wheelchair basketball starts with prices of R$40 and R$60 in the preliminary rounds and reaches between R$90 and R$130 at the superfinals.

The online sales are for Brazilian residents, who must present a CPF (tax) number, have an address in Brazil and be over eighteen years old. Also, payments online will be only accepted with a Visa card. For those who are interested in buying tickets from outside of Brazil, the Olympic Committee will publish a list or re-sellers on September 7th.

If demand for a certain ticket category is too big, successful applications will be decided by lot. Results will be announced in October and delivery of the tickets is scheduled for May 2016. For those, who are unsuccessful in their ticket bids, box offices will open in June 2016 and also accept cash payments.

The Paralympic Games will be disputed by 4,350 athletes from 178 countries competing for 528 medals. The competitions will take place at twenty different sites in the Olympic Zones Deodoro, Maracanã, Copacabana and Barra. There will be two new modalities of competitions, which are at the Paralympics for the first time: canoeing, which will take place at Lagoa, and triathlon, at the Copacabana Fort.
