Friday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings will bring the best of authentic soul and classic funk to Vivo Rio tonight. The group’s members were some of the earliest to lead the soul, funk revival movement in the mid-90s and they are currently going stronger than ever.
Touring in support of their Grammy-nominated album, Give The People What they Want, tonight’s show will be one of four stops in Brazil.
In addition to Sharon Jones, the Dap-Kings lineup currently consists of Gabriel Roth (Bosco Mann) on bass, Neal Sugarman on sax, Homer Steinwess on drums, Fernando Velez on percussion, Binky Griptite and Joe Crispiano on guitars, Dave Guy on trumpet, Cochemea Gastelum on baritone sax and the vocalists Saundra Williams and Starr Duncan.

Tonight O Teatro Mágico will make a stop in Circo Voador as part of their ongoing 2015 “O Tudo Numa Coisa Só” tour in celebration of their 11th year. During those years, the group has released four studio albums, one live album, and three DVDs, selling more than over three million albums combined and over 450,000 DVDs combined. The current lineup of the group includes Fernando Anitelli, on vocals and guitar; Daniel Santiago as musical director and guitarist; Serginho Carvalho on bass.
