The 193 km2 large ‘Big Island’ attracts visitors with its lush Atlantic Forest that covers almost the entire island and with sporting some of the most beautiful beaches in Brazil.

One of the main attractions is the famous Lopes Mendes beach on the south side of the island. The beach faces the open sea and offers great surfing waves, but also appeals to visitors with its sandy beach and clear water. It was voted one of the most beautiful beaches of the world in several publications.

Another worthy trip, all doable from the main village Abrãao, is the Feticeira Beach and Waterfall on the eastern side of the island, as well as Aventureiro beach and the Green and Blue Lagoon, which are best accessed by boat.

“Ilha Grande is a place you really need to visit. With 300 beaches Ilha Grande is the largest island in Angra dos Reis Bay and is perfect for some leisure for you and your family. The paradise island has many attractions like diving, boating, hiking, romantic night dinners at Saco do Ceu and more,” Fabio Mendonça, of Rio Cultural Secrets, explains.

The best way to enjoy everything in just a day is via a comprehensive tour starting in Rio de Janeiro. Rio Cultural Secrets offers private tours with exclusive service. The full day tour to Ilha Grande starts at 05:30 AM with a hotel pick up and will then drive down one of the most beautiful roads along the coast, the Rio-Santos.

Then a speedboat takes visitors from Conceição de Jacareí to the island on the shortest connection possible. On the island itself, there are options to take full or half day boat tours, the easiest way to see the main spots on the island.

“Ilha Grande is not so far from Rio. In around two hours and a half you can enjoy one of the most amazing places in Brazil with all the comfort, privacy and style that visitors want. In one day you have enough time to at least enjoy one of the top attractions of Ilha Grande like taking a boat tour around the island or a boat tour to Lopes Mendes,” Mr Mendonça continued.
