Rio 450 Offers Free Bus Tour to Experience Rio’s Culture

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Among the more than eighty events taking place for Rio’s 450th anniversary this year in March is also a free bus tour circulating between the city’s various cultural institutions. The Circuito Cultural Rio Onibus will take place on two Sundays, March 22nd and March 29th.

Air-conditioned buses will circulate between 10AM and 6PM between seven cultural institutions: The Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB) museum, the Preto Novos institute, the Espaço Meu Porto Maravilha (in Rio’s Port Zone), the MAR museum, Teatro Municipal, the National Museum of Fine Arts and the National History Museum.

The buses can be boarded at any of these stops free of charge without any prior registration and exited at any other. Entrance to the museums is also free of charge on these two days.

Some of the highlights include the exhibition at the CCBB of the works of Russian painter Kandinsky, showings of Candido Portinari at the National Museum of Fine Arts and a special exhibition about Dona Leopoldina, empress of Brazil at the National History Museum.

At the Port Zone, visitors will be shown details about the Porto Maravilha (Marvellous Port) project, as well as a special exhibition for the city’s birthday called “450 Ways of Loving Rio” on the Jornal do Comercio square.

The tour buses will be accompanied by tourism students of the Faetec school, who will give guidance and explain more about Rio de Janeiro’s culture and the various institutions visited in the round-trip.

Other attractions include a show of the Projeto Mobilidade Sonora (Audio Mobility Project) on March 22nd at 11AM together with the orchestra of the Villa-Lobos project and children playing songs by Villa-Lobos at the CCBB and on March 29th at 11AM at the National History Museum.

Also on March 22nd, the violin orchestra of the Copacabana Fort and SindiRefeiçõesRJ will play at the National History Museum at 4PM.
