brankowobbleSaturday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – Very special guest Branko of Buraka Som Sistema will join the Wobble party tonight at Fosfobox in Copacabana.

Formed in 2006, the Portuguese group Buraka Som Sistema is well known for fusing the African genres of kuduro and zouk with bass, breakbeat and progressive dance music.

Their popular singles include “Hangover (BaBaBa) “, “(We Stay) Up All Night”, and “Sound of Kuduro“. During September of last year, they released their third studio album entitled, Buraka.

The event tonight is presented by Red Bull Music Academy and the Wobble party and will feature the DJs of Wobble Crew: Rodrigo S., Marginal Men, and Fabio Heinz. As always they will spin the best of trap, bass and house in the subsolo (basement) during the night.

During the night, DJs El Amaral, Bluntzzilla and Tesfon will also spin above at the fosfobar.

OSGEMEOS (Recreio dos Bandeirantes)
Famous urban artists OSGEMEOS arrive in Rio today to speak before an installation of their work at the Museu Casa do Pontal in Recreio dos Bandeirantes. OSGEMEOS (The Twins) are identical twins brothers Gustavo and Otávio Pandolfo. They began making graffiti in 1987 in São Paulo and have since become internationally recognized for their socially and politically-infused portraits of yellow characters which fill large-scale murals that have appeared around the world. Additionally, during the event today, singer-songwriter Siba will perform live at 7PM.

Blocos (Various Locations)
As Carnival 2015, approaches the free street parties known as blocos are already underway. More than twenty blocos and practices are scheduled to take place today across the city. Among today’s notable Bloco processions is Spanta Neném, who will meet at Ciclovia Da Lagoa (in front of Corte do Cantagalo/Parcão) in Lagoa and then parade beginnning at 1PM. Bloco Imprensa Que Eu Gamo will parade from 3PM-7PM starting from R. Gago Coutinho in Laranjeras. Turbilhão Carioca will parade in Barra da Tijuca from 5PM to 7PM. They gathering point will be at Pça. São Perpetuo (Pça. do Ó). The most anticipated bloco of the day for many will be the official Banda De Ipanema procession. Forty thousand are expected to attend the popular Zona Sul (South Zone’s) bloco’s parade. They will meet at Pça. General Osório in Ipanema at 5:30 PM and parade until 10PM.
It is important to note that meet-up points and locations of the bloco parades are subject to change.

Carnival 2015 Samba School Technical Rehearsals (Santo Cristo)
Tonight two more samba schools head to the Sambódromo to hold their technical rehearsals in preparation for their 2015 Carnival parades. São Clemente will hold their practice first at 8PM and Imperatriz Leopodinense will follow at 9:30 PM. Technical rehearsals are free and open to the public. While they do not include full costume and completed floats, they are still a great opportunity to preview each schools parade and to hear their samba-enredo (samba theme song) for this year.

Wobble (Aproador)
The Wobble party is back tonight at CAVE in Arpoador with very special guest Branko of Buraka Som Sistema. As always, the night will feature the best of trap, house and hip-hop and the Wobble crew with Rodrigo S. Fabio Heinz Marginal Men taking the decks to prove why this is one of the best parties in the city.

Tonight at Casa da Matriz in Botafogo it’s once again time for black lights, neon and rock as the Rock n Glow party returns. DJs miga_zz, Lis Amaral, Rodrigues and Bruno Menescal will spin and promotions will include two for one caipivodkas until 1AM. There will also be very special glow-in-the-dark popsicles.

Happy Days (Lagoa)
Tonight it’s time for the best of hip-hop, rock, funk, and pop as Praia Club in Lagoa hosts the second edition of the Happy Days party. DJs Convidado, Beto Artista and Felipe Rosa will spin. There will also be a special Dobradinha DJ set. Promotions during the night will include two for one Smirnoff Ice until 12AM and two for one Budweiser all night.

New Yorker and Pizza Chef Sei Shiroma has moved his mobile oven into a permanent restaurant in Catete and it’s a great place to drop in before heading out for a night on the town. With Shiroma’s Neapolitan-style gourmet pizza finished off with unique toppings that have included spicy honey, grana padano, zucchini, salt-cured eggplant, beets, watercress, orange balsamic vinaigrette lemon, and caramelized onions, Ferro e Farinha is quickly gaining popularity in Rio.
