JakeBuggFriday’s Rio Nightlife Pick – Tonight singer-songwriter and musician Jake Bugg will perform live at Citibank Hall in Barra da Tijuca.

Born just a little over twenty years ago in England as Jake Edwin Kennedy, Jake Bugg has become well known for his youthful yet contemplative blend of Dylanesque folk and indie rock.

He released his self-titled debut album in 2012 after originally gaining popularity following a 2011 appearance at the Glastonbury Festival. That performance lead to airplay on BBC radio stations and then to appearances on television, then to appearances at more music festivals and later to album releases which would earn him worldwide popularity.

Bugg arrives in Rio tonight as part of his current world tour in support of his sophomore release entitled, Shangri La.

Festival Multiplicidade 2014 Closing Weekend (Gávea)
The 2014 Festival Multiplicade continues the closing weekend of its tenth year today and tonight at the Escola de Artes Visuais (EAV) in Parque Lage, Jardim Botânico. There will be installations, workshops and live performance by VJs and electronic musicians. Today, an installation by Danish artist Jacob Kirkegarrd will start things off at 1PM. Then beginning at 2PM there will be a panel discussion entitled Reflexão with Thorbjørn Tønder Hansen, Bernardo Oliveira, Franz Manata and Saulo Laudares. Between 2PM and 7PM, There will also be performances by Jacob Kirkegaard, Mark Lyken, O Grivo, Negalê Jones, Siri, Augusto Malbouisson & Lucia Santalices, Chelpa Ferro, and Paulo Vivacqua. Among many additional installations and performances scheduled for the day and night, Franck Leibovici will also present a mini-opera entitled, “The Powell Opera” at 9PM. The Lumineers (Flamengo)
Tonight American folk-rock band, The Lumineers will perform live at Vivo Rio. Well known for their song “Hey Ho,” the band is currently receiving attention for “Hanging Tree,” a song they composed and arranged which is sung by Jennifer Lawrence in the newest instalment of the the Hunger Games franchise, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1.” Formed gradually formed in New York, then New Jersey then Denver, Colorado, United States around 2005, The Lumineers, currently consist of members Wesley Schultz, Jeremiah Fraites, Neyla Pekarek, Stelth Ulvang, Ben Wahamaki. They arrive in Rio tonight with the help of Queremos, a Rio crowdfunded kickstarter, that connects musicians, agents, fans and venues. They are currently on tour in support of their 2012 self-titled debut release and will perform at the Popload Festival in São Paulo following their show at Vivo Rio tonight. Also following their pefromance tonight at Vivo Rio will be the Manie Gang, the DJs behind the popular Manie Dansante parties. They will deliver the best of electro swing, electro-blue, new jazz and various other remixed retro beats.

Tonight Dueventos Produções Artísticas and the Green Go Agency present the queen of world reggae, Dezarie, live at Circo Voador. This will be the performer’s debut appearance at the Lapa venue. Andread will be a guest DJ for the night.

Following the success of the popular events, Chá da Alice (Alice’s Tea) and Chá da Anitta (Anitta’s Tea), tonight Fundição Progresso in Lapa will host a new event, Chá das Deusas (Goddess Tea). Very special guests Wanessa and Preta Gil will perform during the party, headlining the Palco Afrodite (Aphrodite Stage), one of the party’s two stages of performers. DJs Giordanna Forte, Thiago, Araújo and Mil Faces will also spin on that stage. DJs Tommy Love, Dri Toscano, Diego Valente, Leo Amato, and Alexxa will spin on the Pista Poseidon (Poseidon stage) during the night.

Tonight Groove Delight will launch a new EP as Copacabana’s Fosfobox hosts another Fosfobox Records showcase night. Groove Delight is a musical project by São Paulo native Ké Fernandes. Her listed influences include the genres of rock, new wave, house and techno. Earstrip & Torha, Dan Lypher and Rogéro Pessoa will also perform in the venue’s subsolo (basement) during the night. “New Talents” will perform above at the Fosfobar during the event.

Tonight the Leviano bar in Lapa presents Bailão Leviano.
